This is a photo of what is left of the temple at Capernaum.
In this week's lesson of Kristi McClellan's "The Gospel on the Ground", we learned that "Tamid" sacrifices of lambs were offered at 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. every day at the temple in Jerusalem and that Tamid means "continual, perpetual". Exodus 29:38-42 tells us the Lord instructed His people to offer these two daily/tamid sacrifices as offerings for their sins.
It was John the Baptist, according to John 1:29, who recognized as Jesus the "Lamb of God." "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!"
And Jesus, the perfect Lamb of God, became the sacrifice for our sin. At His crucifixion, Jesus fulfilled John's prophetic statement. Scriptures tell the exact time of day the crucifixion occurred. Mark 15:25 says, "Now it was nine in the morning when they crucified him." And Matthew 27:45, 46 - 50 give us the time of His death: "From noon until three in the afternoon, darkness came over the whole land. About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out with a loud voice, 'Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?' that is, 'My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?" when some of those standing there heard this, they said, 'He's calling for Elijah' Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge, filled it with sour wine, put it on a stick, and offered him a drink. But the rest said,'Let's see if Elijah comes to save him.' But Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and gave up his spirit."
Kristi pointed out that Jesus may have heard the bleating of the lambs as His hands and feet were being nailed to the cross at 9:00 a.m. and then again at 3:00 p.m. just before He gave His last breath.
Jesus fulfilled once and for all the tamid sacrifices at His crucifixion. "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!" John 1:29b. We don't have to make daily sacrifices at a temple to have a relationship with God. Jesus, the Perfect Lamb of God, once and for all, became the tamid sacrifice! And so much more....I love this prayer from "For the Family" by Sylvia Gunter:
You are the Name above all names, the Lord of heaven and earth, King of all kings, El Elyon-Most High God, Captain of the Lord's hosts. You are the Commander of all commanders, the Commander of the armies of heaven who has no equal who cannot lose, and You are by our side.
All power is yours, Sovereign God our Father. We confess Jesus as our Savior and Lord. We are in Christ, redeemed by His sacrifice on the cross, cleansed, and clothed in His righteousness. We do not presume our safety. We step intentionally into the protection of the blood of the worthy Lamb of God. We plead the mighty name of our Lord Jesus Christ over all our personal lives, all our family, all possessions, our jobs and businesses, our ministries, and the people in our personal and spiritual jurisdiction. The blood of the spotless Lamb of God is our Shield of protection from the destructive intent of the enemy. Jesus has given us legitimate authority to tread on all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall injure us. (Luke 10:19)
Because of the cross of Jesus, the devil has no place in us, no power, dominion, or authority over us. We overcome him by the victory of the blood of Jesus. He has no unsettled claims nor effectual assignments against us. We stand against every lie the deceiver ever told us. We take back all ground we ever gave him and close every door we ever opened to him, intentionally or in ignorance. We refuse his accusations and condemnation, because all our sins and guilt are nailed to the cross. We refuse to converse with the devil. We refuse his tactics of fear and intimidation. Our weapons through God are mighty to pull down enemy strongholds. In the name of Jesus, in His authority, by His blood, according to His Word, and in the power of His Spirit, we pull down every stronghold of the enemy in our lives. We resist everything that exalts itself against knowing God and obeying His will.
We overcome the enemy by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of our testimony. We claim the perfect freedom of Jesus. We receive all the fullness of the Holy Spirit living in us. We yield all of ourselves to all of God. We plead, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, in our lives as it is in heaven this day. We stand in all the victory that is in Christ Jesus, in whose precious name we pray. Amen.
Isn't that something to celebrate?! Thank You, Yeshua Jesus!
