Mayim Chayim

Mayim Chayim is Hebrew for "living water". Notice the lush vegetation on the banks of the Jordan River in the above photo. The Jordan River flows from the Sea of Galilee through the land of Israel into the Dead Sea. Its living water irrigates the Kibbutz (farms) that fill the valley and produce the most delicious vegetables and fruit I have ever eaten.

There is no lush vegetation surrounding the Dead Sea. It is beautiful but the surrounding land is barren. In John 4:10, Jesus told the woman at the well that "If you knew the gift of God, and who is saying to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would ask him, and he would give you living water.'" And John 7:37-39 says, "On the last and most important day of the festival, Jesus stood up and cried out, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. The one who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, will have streams of living water flow from deep within him. He said this about the Spirit. Those who believed in Jesus were going to receive the Spirit, for the Spirit had not yet been given because Jesus had not yet been glorified."

What a gift the Holy Spirit is - Living Water from Yeshua Jesus that produces lush "fruit"! We were blessed to witness the fruits of the Holy Spirit last night as we celebrated the 50th wedding anniversary of a special couple, Gloria and Maurice. Looking around the room I saw and felt the love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control that holds a marriage and family together for 50 years. Each guest in attendance was there because "Living Water" flowed from Gloria and Maurice to grow us in one way or another. Their faithfulness in encouraging, praying, and loving on the family and friends is inspiring! It is Mayim Chayim! (And a foretaste of the Marriage Supper of the Lamb.)

Of course, Gloria's great cooking hasn't hindered their marriage in the least either! I turn to Gloria's cookbook, "Down Home Cookin'" whenever I want a "sure-thing" recipe. I usually serve her banana muffins for breakfast whenever we have overnight guests but today I made them for our Bible Study group and they enjoyed their moist, buttery flavor.

Gloria's Banana Nut Muffins

1 C sugar 1/2 C nuts

1/2 C butter 2 eggs

3 ripe bananas, mashed 1 tsp. vanilla

1 1/2 C flour 1 tsp. soda

In a bowl, cream butter and sugar; add eggs. Sift flour and soda together; add to creamed mixture. Add bananas, nuts, and vanilla. Bake in greased muffin tins. Bake at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes depending upon size of muffin tins.
